oh my word what a week...

This has been a week for the books and not in a good way.  Sunday I started coming down with a cold, oh joy.  By Monday it was full flown but that doesn't matter when you're a mommy right...you gotta keep a move on!  Monday night, Ari started puking.  Yay for a stomach bug...again.  Atleast this time we got her to puke in the toilet, that is a BIG deal since previously I was cleaning up behind her and whatever toys, floor, clothes, etc she puked on.  A couple days passed ad we were recovering slowly meanwhile watching cordi to see if she was going to pick it up.  Yesterday 7am she started puking.  She did not stop all day...was not keeping fluids down...peed once.  I called the pedi, we had her levels checked to see if she was dehydrated.  Results came back and she was borderline, they said to watch her overnight, give her meds they prescribed to get her to stop puking and we'd double check in the morning.  We gave her the meds, but within that period of time she starting throwing up blood.  Oh joy...I was told by a friend of a friend if theirs blood, you go in, period.  So, I took her into the ER.

I have NEVER seen a child so sick...I mean seriously...she TERRIFIED me in the car on the way there, she was slumped forward in her seat and would not respond to my voice.  Talk about a scared momma.  Top that off when we were at home she was SO tired from puking all day and so sick she was stopping getting up when she puked...she would just lay there...I mean really?  I was supposed to watch her all night and not know if she was going to wind up puking ans aspirating it cause she was too sick and tired to move?  Anyway...went to the ER, hooked her up to IV fluids, zofran to stop the puking and let her rest.  They ran more blood work and checked the vomit we had for blood to see if it really was blood.

4 hours later, 400ML of fluid or so, they sent us home.  She was doing MUCH better, talking, looking at us etc.  Took her back to the pedi today and she's doing alright.  It's gonna be a couple days or so for her to bounce back from this, but she's doing ok.

I am tired...SO tired, as you can imagine being a mom of twins, one crying cause her bottom hurts from well...you know...and the other puking every 10-15 minutes.  I am a little frustrated with my pedi.  They took me serious enough to bring me in to the office yesterday but I really felt today like they were dismissing the reasoning behind me taking her in last night.  The child was limp, pale, throwing up every 10 minutes, puking blood, hadn't slept all day and I was supposed to just wait till morning to see what happened?  There is NO way I would have slept for fear my child may be dead in the morning.  I know Armen wanted to wait, he thought maybe the meds would work...at the 1.5 hour point of using them (we were in the hospital at that point) she was still puking, and I was told, that meant they weren't working.

I guess besides being tired, I am just frustrated that the pedi was trying to make me feel like I overreacted.  I don't think I did, I think that the ER would have kicked us out sooner if THEY thought I was.  They told me today at the pedi's office that her numbers were better in the hospital than they were when they took them earlier that day...which when talking to the ER doc, he said she was borderline on moderate dehydration so...if the numbers were WORSE earlier in the day, why in the world was I waiting??

Anyway...that's been my week.  It's been a bit nuts.  We're all ok...the girls are finally getting a good nap...and I am hoping that things stay calm for the weekend ahead.

  1. Oh Tracy!!!! I would be scared to death if I saw one of my boys puke blood!! Horrible, horrifying feeling. We, too, had a scare with Brode. He had a 106.3 fever a few months ago and we took him straight to the ER. I was so scared... he was BURNING up. The thoughts that goes through a mother's head... I'm so glad they are both doing better. TRY to rest when you can. I'll pray for you right now!
