Blankets...

Over the years I decided that I wanted to give my dear friends and family a gift from the heart when they had their first little one...I say first cause I know some of them have desires for large families and I don't think I could keep up.  So, I started way back with a baby balnket...simple, but quite fun...from there...with each baby the patterns changed, no 2 blankets the same...well a couple of them have been close, but nothing QUITE the same.  Most of the patterns I spend hours brainstorming before attempting, and that says something cause math is NOT my strong suit and figuring out all the ins and outs to make them perfect is a challenge.  That being said...I don't think any of them have wound up to be the exact size I intended them to be...but are probably close.  I must admit, I have renigged on my original intention as well and have made multiple blankets for dear friends...my cover was I would only make a second blanket if they had a baby of a different gender...so far I have held true on that one.  I have also started to name my patterns, to keep them straight in my own mind and so that I can tell who I have sewn them for...example, the pattern I used for my brother's baby Kale, is called...Kale...real tough to remember I know.  This is yet another item I toyed with doing as a home business BUT after much thought, the time it takes and the cost of fabric would mean an fairly expensive blanket and I don't think a) my sewing is high enough quality to charge a high price for and b) with the addition of twins to our lives having hours to sit at the sewing machine (or thinking through patterns) is just not as fessible as I would like.  BUT, if you do know someone that would like a blanket, or would like one yourself...let me know...I am sure we can figure something out....Here are some of the blankets I have made over the years...
my original pattern...no name for this pattern but this was for baby Grace...
these two are the same pattern, this was for baby Alexa...
showing the front and back of the same blanket...
these were blankets I made for boy/girl twins...they have some shared fabrics and some of the fabrics are the same but different color...the left would be "Grace" and the right is "David"...
close up of "Grace"...
close up of "David"...
"Zach"...
Also when I found and had made personalized tags to sew onto my gifts...
one of my favorites (fabric wise) "Dominic"...
Baby Maya's...born the same day as Dominic, therefore I used the same pattern...as I was busy sewing for awhile...
same blanket different shot...
and the most recent pattern..."Kale"...
A lot of my patterns are similar but are tweeked here and there for fun and so each blanket unique, like the child.  I started with a different size blanket (square) and am now consistently aiming for blankets that are about 45x60...I am currently working on a new pattern called "Addison" and pictures will follow, but 2 things have to happen first...1-the blanket needs to be sewn and 2-I have to give it to the mommy-to-be before you see it.  So...hopefully by next weekend pics will be up.

And in answer to the question that I know is brewing, I have not sat and made blankets for my own children...yet...I will someday, my desire is to take a bunch of their baby clothes and cut them into a quilt...so...it will be a few years before I get around to that I am sure.
